This month, Orchestra Northwest delivered an enchanting rendition of Saint‑Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, bringing charm, wit and orchestral flair to audiences in Limavady, Dungannon and at the Guildhall, Derry.
The programme paired the animal suite with beloved music from stage and screen—think dramatic overtures, cinematic themes and lush melodies—offering something for every listener. Child‑friendly yet sophisticated, the concerts invited listeners to imagine lions, elephants, tortoises (and even dinosaurs!), vividly painted by strings, woodwinds, piano and more.
Community spirit was strong: as a regional orchestra with amateur and aspiring musicians from Derry, Strabane, Donegal and beyond, their performance reaffirmed local musical talent, passion and the joy of live orchestral music.
