Maurice has been involved with Allegri from its inception. He shared in our belief that there was a need for a community based female vocal group in the city which could perform a vibrant and eclectic mix of choral music.

He is ideal for the role of MD with his expertise, professionalism and passion for music, and the fact that he shares our ethos to make the group as inclusive as possible and welcome everyone - regardless of background or ability.

His credo is, “if you can talk, you can sing” and he believes that “we are all born with one musical instrument - the voice”, and this belief that everyone has musical potential inspires each of our members and infuses confidence. This, coupled with an outstanding musical talent (and quick wit!), makes him an inspirational MD, his contagious passion for music inspiring enthusiasm from all our members.

Maurice is well known in the region for his accomplished piano playing, and his involvement in the thriving musical life of the city. Joining the orchestra with touring companies from the West End, playing as part of a number of hit musicals, and has also acted as Musical Director for local productions. He works as Music Theory & Aural Skills tutor and piano accompanist for Western Education Authority (Western Region) Music Service.

He has a wide and varied musical knowledge, particularly in choral singing. In this field he has studied with the European Academy of Young Choral Conductors and Europa Cantat. As Assistant Director of the City of Derry Civic Choirs he has performed as chorister, accompanist and conductor locally, nationally and in various international choral festivals in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US.
